The phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison in 1877 at his Newark, New Jersey lab.

He had wonderful ideas for its usefulness. . . Recording & playing music. . . to record family histories in your relatives own voice. . . To help the blind, it was the precursor to the audiobook.

The first recording was Edison himself “Mary Had A Little Lamb”.

The army provided phonographs for the troops in Word War 1 since music kept their spirits up.

Measures: 1” x 1 3/16” x 5/8” (5cm x 3.5cm x 1.5cm)
